NBA Total Sweater (NBATS) is designed to assist the NBA fan in projecting the total points scored in a game that he is observing. A person who has taken a side in a game can easily determine at any point in the game where he stands on his prediction. This is not the case with Totals. NBATS lets you see at a glance if the game is on a pace to go over or under the total.
After a few minutes of practice, using NBATS is simple. Let's assume that you are going to watch the Blazers play the Bulls in the first game of this year's NBA championship series. Run the program and set the total to the proper amount ( as of this writing it is 209 ). When the game starts, press the Start Clock button. NBATS' game clock will begin to run. Whenever a team makes a basket increase the Points Scored by the proper amount. Clicking on the scroll arrow will change it by two, clicking in the gray scroll region will change it by three. Click on the +1 button to add one. NBATS will continually adjust its projection of the final score based on the time remaining in the game and the current score. Every twelve seconds on the game clock NBATS will also plot the current projection in a graph.
Use the Stop Clock and Start Clock buttons to keep NBATS' game clock in sync with the actual game clock. You can adjust the clock at any time by using the scroll bar associated with it. It's not crucial that you keep the clocks exactly in sync; anything within a few seconds will produce a reasonably accurate graph. In fact, if you're not concerned with the graph you don't need to run the game clock at all. Just set the clock and the score anytime you want to project the final total.
